Why we built Investor Strides
A few years into my career on the buy side, my team hit a rough patch. The fear of being let go got me thinking about what I’d do if I had to move on.
That’s when it landed: I had almost nothing to show for the years I’d put in.
I’d researched hundreds of companies. Pitched many with conviction. Done everything I could to drive performance. Been right more often than I was wrong.
And none of it could leave the building with me.
If I sat across from someone at another firm, they’d have no real way to know if I was any good at this. They’d have my résumé, some anecdotal wins and losses, and mostly my word for it. The one thing that should have spoken for itself, my actual record, was locked inside systems I didn’t own.
It struck me as absurd. Investing is one of the most measurable things you can do for a living, yet there’s no system of record.
I think a lot about pro sports. Every player has a stat line, a record of exactly what they did, and it drives everything: the pay, the trades, the careers. Our profession is just as measurable, just as performance-driven, and none of us can show a stat line of our own.
Every decision you make is an action with a date on it and an outcome attached. Right or wrong, the market keeps score.
That’s the part I couldn’t let go of. Not that the measurement was hard. That it just didn’t exist.
So we built it.
We started from the one rule that makes a track record worth anything: you can’t fake it. Once you enter a trade, it’s locked. No edits, no backdating, and the prices come from the market.
Your record shows exactly how good you are. Simple but powerful.
Since I’m the one telling you this, it’s only fair you know who I am.
I’m on the buy side, still in the seat, still doing the work I just described.
Before that, I was a professional athlete, which is probably why I think about this the way I do. In sport, your results tell you what you’re genuinely good at, and what you’re not. You can’t talk your way around them.
It’s part of why Moneyball stuck with me. A team starts trusting the data over the biased scouting eye, and players everyone had written off turn out to be exceptional. Performance over pedigree. Investing should work the same way and enable alpha generators to rise faster.
That’s our mission and what we’re building with Investor Strides. A place where you own your track record. A complete, verified, credible one that goes with you wherever your career takes you.
We’re building the thing I wish I’d had. And we’re building it for you. Your track record becomes an asset that compounds, and insurance for the day you need it. If you’ve ever done the work and wanted a way to prove it, this is for you.
